Aux Philippines, on déploie les femmes en masse à l’étranger comme aides ménagères ou nounous. Elles laissent souvent derrière elles leurs propres enfants, avant de se jeter dans l’inconnu. Dans un centre de formation au travail domestique, comme tant d’autres aux Philippines, un groupe de candidates au départ se préparent au mal du pays et aux maltraitances qui pourraient les atteindre. Lors d’exercices de jeux de rôles, les femmes se mettent tant dans la peau de l’employée que des employeurs. Aux abords de la fiction, OVERSEAS traite de la servitude moderne de notre monde globalisé, tout en révélant la détermination de ces femmes, leur sororité et les stratégies mises en place face aux épreuves que leur réserve l’avenir. 
In the Philippines, women get deployed abroad to work as domestic workers or nannies. In order to do so, they frequently leave their own children behind before throwing themselves into the unknown. In one of the many local filipino training centers dedicated to domestic work, a group of trainees are getting ready to face both homesickness and the possible abuses lying ahead. During role playing exercises, they alternatively play both the roles of the employee and that of the employers. Bordering on fiction, OVERSEAS brings to light the question of modern servitude in our globalized world, while emphasizing these women’s determination, their sisterhood, and the strategies they find to face the ordeals that awaits them in the near future.

Partie en Corée du Sud à la recherche d'un
père absent depuis l'enfance, la réalisatrice est confrontée à un passé plein
d'énigmes auxquelles les proches ne semblent pouvoir apporter de réponses. De
ce manque, naît sa nécessité et sa volonté de réinventer son histoire intime à
partir de la parole de l'autre, qu'il soit connu ou rencontré fortuitement, et
d'images extraites de films, d'émissions télévisées et de « dramas »
qui mettent en scène des retrouvailles. La juxtaposition de ces éléments
éclaire le passé de la réalisatrice, rendant compte d'une époque et des rouages
d'une société. Au sein d'un double mouvement, le film compose le portrait
fantasmé d'un père absent, tout en inscrivant l'histoire de la réalisatrice au
sein d'une histoire plus globale, celle d'un peuple, profondément marqué par la
séparation.





Upon arriving in South Korea to look for her father who has been absent since her childhood, Soa Sung-a Yoon, the filmmaker, is confronted to a past full of enigmas and for which her relatives seem unable to bring answers. This gap motivates her need and her will to re-create her intimate story out of other people’s words, whether familiar or barely known, and from pictures of movies, TV shows or “dramas” that stage the reunion of missing people. The juxtaposition of those elements sheds light on the past of Soa Sung-a Yoon, while reporting on a period and the mechanism of a society. In a dual motion, the movie depicts the fantasized portrait of an absent father, while including the personal story of the filmmaker in a wider one, the story of a community deeply scarred by separation.

« Nata Iurnata » est le titre d'une chanson de Svez, jeune rappeur napolitain. Le film est une adaptation libre des paroles de la chanson, écrites en dialecte napolitain, qui retracent la routine d’une journée de la banlieue de Naples. Il n’y est question ni de drogue, ni de mafa, mais d’un quotidien banal, répétitif, dénué d’argent, envahi par une présence télévisuelle constante, et ponctué de sorties nocturnes sans surprise, dont le narrateur cherche à se libérer à travers l’écriture et la musique. « Nata Iurnata » recounts the routine of a day in Naples’ suburbs. It is neither about drugs, nor about mafia, but about trivial and repetitive daily life, devoted of money, overruled by the continuous presence of TV and interspersed by night trips without any surprises. Through writing and music the narrator tries to free himself from this routine. The film is a free adaptation of a song by Svez, a young Neapolitain rapper.

« Les lieux du son: Séoul, Kiev, New York » interroge le rapport entre la musique et l'espace publique. Dans chaque ville, est filmé un lieu public où l'on peut entendre une musique. La fonction de chacun des lieux, la manière dont l'espace est organisé, le type de musique qui y est joué et la réaction des personnes présentes, révèlent des relations humaines, économiques, culturelles et sociales. Il y est question de la nécessité de l'art, de sa valeur marchande, de notre rapport au patrimoine, de l'idée même de divertissement, du monde du travail ainsi que sa déshumanisation, du sens des symboles et des valeurs.
"The Places of Sound: Seoul, Kiev, New York" questions the relationship between music and public space. In each city, a public place where music can be heard is filmed. Each place’s function, the space organization, the type of music and the people’s reactions reveal human, economic, cultural and social relationships. 	Adieu je pars et dans mon cœur j’emporterai
2006 &#124;&#38;nbsp;11:02min &#124;&#38;nbsp;DypticUn "karaoké asiatique" à Liège, en Belgique. Chaque lundi soir, une partie de la communauté chinoise s'y rassemble pour chanter des chansons dans leur langue maternelle. Adieu je pars et dans mon coeur j'emporterai, tourne autour du désir et de la construction d'un ailleurs. Le son renferme un fort pouvoir émotif et permet de se connecter à d'autres espaces-temps. On peut en être à tout moment traversé, envahi. Au Karaskobar, les chinois chantent des chansons tristes, joyeuses ou déchirantes en pensant à leurs familles qui est loin, à leurs femmes restées au pays. L'ailleurs se dessine sur leurs visages. Ce moment représente une échappée, un exutoire. « Farewell I leave and keep in my heart » shows an Asian karaoke in Liege (Belgium). Each Monday evening, Chinese people gather together to sing in their mother tongue. The elsewhere can be read on their faces. They enjoy singing sad, happy or heart-rending songs remembering their families, their wives...

2006 &#124;&#38;nbsp;10:45min &#124;&#38;nbsp;DypticDans la ville de Liège, des personnes de la communauté chinoise racontent l’histoire d’une de leurs chansons de prédilection. Au fil des mots, ils se racontent eux-mêmes et expriment leurs sentiments. Ces histoires, dites à divers endroits de la ville, constituent une sorte de mémoire collective.
